Overview of the photography galleries
My photography covers the three broad areas of naturalscapes, builtscapes and people, but also the links and crossovers between these. The two areas of 'people in the landscape' - both natural and built - are particular favourites of mine: I like to capture the emotion people feel towards, and the link that people have to, the landscape they are in at that moment.
I like to take close up photos - including macros - where the patterns and textures of both the natural and built environments are exposed.
As well as these specific galleries, there is a folder that contains specific themed photo-projects that I have carried out.
You can click on the links directly below to go to samples of the galleries. You can click on the links at the bottom of the page to go to the full galleries. Details of the photo methods I use are found on this page below these links.
All the photos shown on this website are taken by me and are covered by copyright laws. Most photos were taken using digital Canon cameras (primarily an EOS 5D Mark II and more recently an EOS 6D). I also use a compact hybrid camera, especially for street photography, where using a big DSLR makes it too obvious that I am a photographer - I first had a Sony NEX-5 and now I use a Sony α 6000. The quality of photos with the modern hybrids are exceptional, although not as good as those taken with the 5D or 6D.
I have also use my iPhone 5 and a Canon Powershot S120 in situations where I can't carry my usual cameras - mostly whilst I'm out running.
I always shoot in colour and use RAW format. I work in both colour and black & white, with a preference for colour in the natural landscapes and black & white for urban landscapes and street photography.
Adobe Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Lightroom and Aperture have been used to enhance but not manipulate the photos (e.g. dust removal and highlighting some shadows). I use Tonality to create black and white images from the colour originals.
